Ok guys want some opinions . Im spending waaaay to much money this summer on two builds at the same time . I cant afford to buy a $2000 Nightforce at the present time .Ive narrowed it down between a Vortex HST,PST or a Sightron S Tac scope . Ive read tons of reviews and watched videos on the Vortex scopes . They seem great and have a excellent warranty . Only draw back on the Vortex that i have read is that the clicks are not as Audible and at High magnification the eye relief shrinks and is very head sensitive. The Sightron is suppose to have a little better glass, more audible clicks but no Zero stop .My problem is the Sightron S Tac scopes are new for 2016 so there is not a lot of reviews on the scopes yet . I have always wanted to try a Sightron but no nothing about them . What do you guys think about these Mid range scopes ? Which is better ?

The magnification will be 4x16x50 for the Vortex and 4x20x50 for the sightron . At least thats what im looking at . I thought this would allow me to hunt and kill some paper with the same scope .

I have 2 vortex viper HST 4-16x44 and 1 viper HS 4-16x44 and I am very happy with all of them. There customer service is outstanding. I actually just ordered the Viper HD binos in 15x50. I damaged the HS scope by my own hand by over torquing the rings. i called to ask if I could pay to get it repaired because I damaged it, they told me to send it in the warrenty would cover it. I replied that I didn't think stupidity was cover by warrenty. The guy laughed and said just don't do it twice. And they included the torque spec for the rings in the box in large bold print. For the money I think they build a quality product.

I dont doubt Vortex's warranty . Everyone has been more than satisified with that .But have read some issues with tracking ? Sightron is suppose to have good tracking and better glass. But this Sightron S Tac is new for 2016 . Its suppose to have glass close to the Sightron llls. Two things scare me with the Sightron ,its new and my Grandfather use to tell me you get what you pay for ! The Sightron is 200 less than the Vortex . What im afraid of what might happen is that i end up buying both the Vortex and the Sightron and not like either one . Then end up buying a Leupold or Nightforce! I can see Hankins in the background laughing and saying i told you so ! Cry once and buy good one !

I have heard the Sightron called the poor mans NightForce. Dont know myself. But I also can see Jeff in the background saying "Buy once cry once" I love my NightForc NSX....and intend to buy another when the funds accumulate again Drop

I have also been looking at the 4-20x50 S Tac to replace another failed Zeiss. This model is new and made in the Philippines but I believe the 2.5-17.5x56 has been out for a few years. I will be going with a Sightron. I like a duplex reticle and target turret for my adjustments. Vortex doesn't offer a standard duplex in the HST or PST

Thats what i liked about the Sightron also . The plain duplex and target turrets . Also really like the power range 4x20x50 . That would seem to work well for hunting and target ?

Whats the main difference between any mid range scope . Do the more expensive scopes just have better glass . If a mid range scope will track well and hold up to recoil i can live without the better glass . I can also live without the lighted reticles and BDC reticles . When your a dumb redneck like myself all that crap is just confusing anyway .

One of my primary reasons for going with the Sightron was it's reputation for toughness. I have it mounted on a bolt gun that is capable of cranking out some pretty serious recoil, even with the brake.

My main reason for looking at Sightron is just as Rambler has stated reputation for toughness. I need good glass as well since many times where I hunt where ole big boy doesn't show up except the first/last 5-10 mins. of legal light. It would have a Nightforce on it if it wasn't my gun I use when hunting from a climbing stand as well.

I just called Sightron . I asked them how the s Tac glass compared to the Slll they told me very close . I also asked them about tracking. They told me they tested a S Tac against a Leupold V6 last week . The Sightron tracked better . The Leupold 3x18x50 was what i was gonna buy before building 2 guns at the same time . I guess im gonna order a Sightron S Tac 4x20x50 and see how good they are . If they are anything like they claim to be ill end up owning several. Its exactly what i want as far as power ranges and features all for $400 .Thats the scary part . Time will tell .

Will do, just ordered 2 Sightrons S Tac scopes I should have them by Friday. Did you ever get your S-Tac scope? If so,what do you think of it so far? I just ordered the 4-20x50 Duplex from Optics Planet for $379.99 free shipping and a free Camo Sightron Hat included.

If a mid range scope will track well and hold up to recoil i can live without the better glass . I can also live without the lighted reticles. Truer words never spoken. Sights need adjustments first and foremost. If you need to look at something use your binos since their is no rifle scope the equal of good binos or spotter. Lighted reticles are not necessary either. Vortex adjustments are good in my experience but you'll likely use that warranty at some point.

I have 2 of the hst scopes and they work well for me, but i have always wondered about sightrons. About the vortex warranty, i have used it on a nomad spotting scope. Darn thing broke in half at some point on me, i think while i had my pack strapped perhaps too tightly to a 4 wheeler. I pulled it out on an antelope hunt, unzipped the case and half fell out in my lap! They did send me a brand new one to replace it, but that didnt help me til long after the antelope hunt. I thought there was metal in the body of that nomad, but there wasnt, so guess it shouldnt be a suprise it broke. I like the scopes ok so far though. Seem to track well enough for my needs, but always curious what might ve better out there.
