Sorry I apologize for sounding ignorant just have never shot at distances beyond 200. I don't understand why I would really even want anything in my scope other than crosshairs if I can dial for wind or elevation? Or do you want the marks for a quick shot ?

Just a personal preference on how each person likes to use there scope I think.
It seems a lot of guys who shoot the PRS style tactical matches tend to dial their elevation but hold off for windage. Most stages are timed, there for harder to adjust two turrets and get all your shots down range. Using the reticle can also come in handy in a hunting situation when things happen fast like we all know they can, quicker acquisition as long as you know your dope to make the correct hold.
Having turrets and a reticle just gives more options, chose what works best for you and the certain situation you are in

Doug.. I also have an 8-32x56 Nightforce and I do hunt with it,, but my hunting is done from benches in the field. When I go to the woods I'll be packing my little apex for now on...
Second focal plane scopes reticle stays the same size through out its magnification range.. A first focal plane scope reticle gets bigger with magnification so if you're shooting small targets on high power your reticle can completely cover it.

Doug..........I only use my gun/scope for punching paper. I shoot competitive 600 yard benchrest and like my 40X Leupold Competition scope. When I got the chance to buy this NF used, I took it. The clicks on the turrets are spot on. I used to like using the hash marks or mil dots on my Leupold MK IV until I got this NF with some crazy reticle in it.........It did not lend itself to any marks that made any sense so I was forced to "dial-up!" Now I love it..........Oh, so why did I not get a reticle change?----$350.00, that's why! I guess NF feels if you can afford their scopes you can afford their reticle change prices! For me, a hunting scope would be probably in the 4 - 14 range unless I was going to do some serious LR hunting.

I use both where I hunt MOST of the time I dont have time to dial up the elevation so I use the hash marks. If an animal is far enough out that I need to hold over my scope is already turned to max magnification when I get on the animal or soon thereafter so the hash marks are very predictable as long as you know the yardage..

Not sure what im gonna buy . Im gonna have 2 guns . 1 Hankins that im planning on putting a VX6 3x18x50 and a Savage that Bestill is building me . That gun im gonna try to shoot Blackhorn 209 to possibly 500 yards . Which by the way i watched Bestill ( Jeff Fisk ) kill the Friendship spring inline muzzleloader match . I had a great time watching Jeff and his brother compete . Jeff Fisk was the overall winner with i think a clean score and 9Xs . Very impressive shooting ! He did it with a Weaver 3x15x50 . Kinda hard to argue with success. That man can shoot and knows the Blackhorn 209 game . I may have to try a Weaver for my second gun !

You can't argue with a winning combination? There are, however, other scopes that will work as well and a lot has to do with budget constraints You know.............which scope gets "the most BUCKS for the bang?"...........or the other way around! !

I have one of bestill's rifles. It shoots quite well and I also like the Weavers for the $. A lot of scope for the same. Natchez I think (or Midway) has them on sale regularly, the Grand Slams and Weaver Classic Extremes have worked well for me. I actually favor them over my Zeiss, B&L, Leupold, Monarchs etc. especially price wise.

I just had another Zeiss conquest go bad on an sml. The elevation turret stopped working. I think I may try the Weaver super slam euro that Midway has on sale.

I'm thinking a Vortex PST. or HST. I know a lot of you guys have NF but I'm not gonna spend that kinda money . I'm having 2 guns built at the same time and not gonna put a 2000 plus scope on my second gun . I figure this will give me the chance to try the Weaver or Vortex and see if I like it.Having a bit of a hard time finding a Vortex HST.

On average, its usually hard to beat cameraland. They post sales on my state forum todays deal of the day is a meopta meostar 8x32 binocs $300 off cameraland dealm of the day 5/2/16 Midway has some good sales too. but cameraland's everyday price is usually the benchmark

Also don't forget to check out Red Hawk Rifles sometimes they have some great sales on Zeiss scopes they have been opened but never mounted on a gun. I have bought 3 from them and all are like new with a full lifetime warranty.

The price was right on the 8 x 32! Of course, being a variable, it can be dialed down but being used to my 40X Leupold for LR bench shooting, I keep it dialed up!
