I'm having a hard time finding any H4198 or IMR. And by hard I mean can't find any. Vihtavuori N120 has almost the same burn rate. I'll be shooting it in a knight kp1 single shot break action 45cal conversion. Will probably go with a 275gr parker bullet. Has anyone else tried this powder?

I found it to be one of the cleanest powders I ever used.

Now everywhere is showing N120 out of stock. What about N130? Has anyone shot it out of their single shot smokeless muzzleloader?

Thank you. Last night when I checked No one had it in stock. I just ordered 5# You will not be disappointed..we settled on 56 grn of N120 behind a 275 fury/wool wad in a converted CVA .45...lights out at 2400 fps...we will be bumping the charge up a bit when I can hit the range again

I'll be shooting a knight kp1 singleshot. I'm going with N120 powder. Probably using 250gr fury black tips bullets. Any load recommendations? And do you use a patch or not? If so why? Smokeless muzzleloaders are new to me. I'm having 2 converted. 1 for my 83yr old dad for his birthday on March 13th. Any light load recommendations for a senior hunter? I'll have to size his bullets a tad loose so he's able to load them.

For your dad I would be looking at a saboted load...a 200-225 .40 cal bullet in a Harvester sabot...starting with 50 grain of N120...should be mild enough for him...for yourself I would go sabotless and start at 54 grains of N120..

For years, I have used N-120 as almost interchangeable with H-4198. A grain or two either way is not going to blow up your rifle. But a double charge will!

Was just saying the make of barrel is a brux asking is the powder burn close enough for same load or back it down couple of grains

I found the N120 to be a little hotter than what others have stated here. I’ve ran my large shank/bolt gun to recommended max charge on this board of 4198 with 275’s with no pressure issues but I tried 3grs less of N120 with a 275 in it and got heavy bolt lift and smoked the primer pocket on the module. Possibly just the lot number this pound is from or what I’m not sure, but I’d start fairly low if you come across some.
