Arrived back home late last night, safe and sound, to the flat black dirt plains of northern Illinois. Mother Nature was very kind to provide us the extremely mild temperature making for safe driving and extremely comfortable shooting conditions. As is the case with every Kentucky Challenge I've attended, sure was enjoyable to break bread, share time with a group of good people and shooting sports enthusiasts. Sincere compliments to the multiple chefs (Jeff, Toby and Tim), cookie baker (Chris), candy makers (Sara and Ralph) and jerky creator par excellence (Dennis). The new gong blasting event was very fun, instantly gratifying and certainly not challenging enough for the field of very talented shooters with their awesomely accurate Hankins muzzle-loaders. Congratulations to almost the entire field, with my exception, for all being tied for the win! Can't wait to learn how the gong event will be made a bit more difficult to separate a champion from the field of great shooters. As always, I listened and learned some more tidbits of knowledge to help me improve my shooting skills and muzzle-loader care and maintenance. The last bit of wisdom offered to me by Dennis was to fine tune my rifle's final accuracy by holding the gun and scope reticle steady on point of aim for last shot and then dialing the reticle to that shot's point of impact. More precise than doing the math to calculate small moa or mil adjustments. Have used this technique to dial-in a newly mounted scope, but never thought to use this technique for final accuracy adjustment. Sure made good sense when Dennis explained this to me. Using this technique, I'll be better prepared next time for precise pinpoint shot accuracy. And again, as with every event, thank you Jeff Hankins and Hankins Precision Rifles for creating and sponsoring the Kentucky Challenge events. A fun time was had by all. And the buck that chased the doe directly across the shooting range while we were launching lead sure did temp fate. haha

I just got the video uploaded from the 2024 Polar Bear shoot. I used a new camera and microphone. There is a constant noise in the back ground from the creek running, I would like to know what you guys think of the video and sound quality. Your feed back will help me with the settings on the camera for the next video.
Thanks....

Hey Jeff, I think the video and specifically the audio quality is very good. The creek water noise is there, but certainly doesn't drown out your narration. Maybe next time include a short piece of video showing the chefs cooking up the delicious breakfast and the crowd enjoying dining on the pre-shoot meal. As always, I think everyone enjoyed a fun match.
On the subject of steel-gong rubber-strap durability, is there a maker of ar-steel gongs that has a design where there is no chain or strap, but an integral ar-steel strap bent into a loop at its top? A steel bar passing through the loop will allow the gong to rotate dissipating energy from the bullet strike. With a long enough steel strap there should be a minimal chance of striking up near the loop or supporting bar. I know, all it takes is money. haha

Mike. I ordered $2000.00 worth of AR plate today. I will be making a set of gongs that should be instructible. I have an idea, I've ran it though my head over and over and I am pretty sure this will work, but you better be on your game if you want to shoot this next challenge clean.

The KYL was fun and it is good to make a smaller gong. If the wind shows up it will thin the field also.
