Some may already know this -but I’ll add it. Electronics will drift when electrical appliances are in use. Some have said that a cell phone in use can cause drift but I haven’t seen it. With either a balance or an electronic try to keep them out of the wind. The very $$$ expensive lab scales I use at work (electronic) the scale sits inside an enclosed plastic housing with a door on it. To get precise readings it’s required to close the door. A balance beam has more issues in the wind than an electronic so more important. Put your scale inside your car and close the doors.
I agree with Richard -that the balance beams are all pretty reliable for consistent weights within 1/10 of a grain.

Of the half dozen different scales I have, when I weigh charges for the smokeless ML, I usually use a little Frankford Arsenal DS-750. I bought it so I had a small portable I could take to weigh charges easily at the bench. It literally fits in a shirt pocket and cost about $35 bucks on Amazon. It’s accurate and repeatable enough, and it doesn’t drift like some of my more expensive digital scales either.

I believe a budget scale can weigh consistently but accurately is a different thing. I have been weighing on Mark's very nice scale for shooting in KY and checked a load against my rcbs beam scale, .07 different. Not apple to apple Dennis Is .07 in grains -so less than 1/10 ? Thanks

I use the cheap Frankfurt Arsenal from Midway. I check it with an old beam scale from an RCBS reloading kit from about 1975. I have a postal scale as well but have not tried it to compare. I don't shoot cutting edge loads so I am not worried about accuracy, just consistency.

i've noticed my 500 is much more sensitive to breathing near it than the electronic . i get close to 55 grains then hold my breath to finish with the trickler . i feel more confident with the RCBS and i'm glad i got it . thanks to all who replied , jeff

The key is a constant powder measure. I have a 45+ year old RCBS beam and Chargemaster.

A&D FX120i (trickle with a ‘Dandy Trickler’) as well as a Chargemaster 1500.
