The high road is a good road. But may I suggest that we all refrain from name calling, double meaning innuendos and such the like. Members on Hank's board can't expect members on any other board to act civil if at first it isn't observed here. I haven't always lived up to that standard but I'm trying to change and do the right thing. My name is Steve and I'm a fence jumper

Well spoken Jeff. Brings a lot of clarity to lite. I just can't get over how Doug's board has changed and how people are treated there now. As compared to the days when Doug, Mama Flinter, Rick Bibby and the old crew were still around. Yes, those were most certainly the "Good ol' Days" of Doug's Board. Sure do miss them.

As compared to the days when Doug, Mama Flinter, Rick Bibby and the old crew were still around. Yes, those were most certainly the "Good ol' Days" of Doug's Board. Sure do miss them. Only in the past couple of years have I been posting on message boards. The old timers that are mentioned above and paved the way for what we are doing today, are they deceased or were they banned?

Some like Rick have departed, don't think any were banned, some were before my time.

Doug and his wife, who went by "mamaflinter" started the board to get people together to learn and better understand the Savage 10MLII. In the beginning, they were not on ProBoards, but went to PB for better board operation. Many of those who refer to the old green board are not going back in time far enough. The old, old board no longer exists, even in archives.
But then came a time when Doug and mama just quit posting, and there was no communication with them for months. No one could get in touch with them. They seemed like very responsible, dedicated people to have volunteeringly stopped all communication. I always feared something terrible happened to them. I don't know of anyone who even had their real names, address or phone number. Edge finally got permission from PB to take over the board. At the time he was a moderator and every one agreed that someone should do it. It also seemed he was a very, very different person at the time.... at least to most of us.
Rick Bibby was almost like a godfather to the board, and died due to complications of diabetes. It seems like his heart just gave up. I cannot begin to explain to you new guys what loss that was. He was the main pioneer of duplexing, the pioneer of the first conversions to .45 and what improvement we all know that has been. He did some of the first pressure testing because he very much believed in safe loads. He bent over backwards to help others, whether it was on the board, PM's, the phone or in person. He was a machinist by trade and a great one at that. He took a lot of heat from the likes of Randy Wakeman, but was patient, non-combative, and proved the loud mouth totally wrong in the end. Smokeless muzzle loading lost a great one when he had to leave us, and I have no doubts that went on to all other areas of his life and family.

This is probably not the perfect analogy and has nothing to do with politics. BUT, if you were to compare personalities....
1) Rick Bibby...RBinAR.... is the Ben Carson in terms of of persona. Very socially adept in including anyome who wants to talk 2) Edge is Donald Trump and not at all afraid to call people stupid out load and "fire" them. LOL
RB was a great man and the ultimate pioneer in what we do. Anyone with time that likes to be a historian, should research any of the old Doug's posts and read what this man has done.
I was interested in a "build" many years ago and had talked to Rick on the phone. He arranged to ship me his PERSONAL, skelatalized stocked .45 with load data and some bullets. This was my ONLY dabbling in sabotless .45. He told me to keep it for a while and play with it...which I did. I think I only shot it 9 times, all sabotless with TMZ's that I had to hammer down the barrel, SST's and not sure what else, if anything. It shot very good but due to bullet sizing issues... AT THE TIME...I did not like the effort it took to make it shoot the way it could. We are talking 8-10 years ago and RB didn't know who the hell he was sending his gun to other than board communication and one phone call
What a guy.

Yes Rick was very helpful to my newbie self when I came to the board, I still have a couple of recessed Savage plugs he did for me before he died. without a doubt he was instrumental in many advancements in the smokeless world. RB and his knowledge have been and always will be missed.
The good ole days are gone BUT we have things now that RB would smile about, all brought about by guys much like himself, guys that are always looking for a better way to do things, better, faster, more accurate and so on. many of those guys call this place home while others call Doug's home. either way we keep moving forward to see what the future brings, learning from each other even if we are on different sides of the fence. Will the fence ever come down? Maybe IF WE ALL TRY WE CAN AT LEAST COEXIST IN SOME HUMANE FASHION.. If not we will just have to man up and keep moving forward, time will tell...

I have worked in the plumbing&pipe fitting trade for over 30yrs. and put up miles of high pressure air and gas/argon/oxygen etc. These only carry up to or under 200psi.The pressures in any firearm are way too much for even pipe threads.Too bad reasonable understanding is so hard for some. This was a great way to prove your point. Thanks for putting up this video.

I guess I missed or didn't choose to post on this thread back when it was new. I went on Doug's when I was trying to get my 1st SML, a MLII, to shoot and I was a SML newbie. thanks to Doug's and a couple local guys I learned a lot and didn't blow myself up. Back then the "gun rag" guys were either into or adamantly opposed to SML. I was treated very well and made new friends quickly and was soon a degenerate SML addict. Now if you are on Doug's you have to be very careful of what you post as so many advances and information is suppressed as if it were North Korea. I have stuff built/done by many different builders/manufactures and I can't even post any results or comparisons of my results for even minor stuff. I remember the Doug's of 8-10 years ago and wonder why this ............ I'm amazed at how petty and prideful some people can be. 10
Thanks Jeff for an alternative and more open forums!

Eventually Doug's will just dissolve. Why a guy as intelligent as Edge would let a few rowdy A-holes destroy a perfectly good forum is beyond me? I have actually sat and had breakfast with Edge at a diner up in my home town in NJ so I can attest to him being intelligent and a good machinist. This is what amazes me?

This is what happens when an ego gets in the way Richard. I know you broke bread with him but obviously it did not matter. He is truly a mess and a guy that will bring himself and Doug's down. May not go away for a long time but he will water down the gene pool for sure. It's sad. The guy probably has no life other than the board.
Thanks to Hank and having this place. It's where things will continue. If you are lurking here Edge, you have F'ed yourself in more ways than one and you can't ban me here.
Love, Beans

I'm one of them but I'm not the only A-hole here. That seems to be the common misconception : that this is an A-Hole free zone. Birds of a feather flock together.

Yesterday I posted a simple response to a guy JakeSmith's qfuestion over on Doug's....nothing to do with Hank's a simple response to a sabot and bullet question. Today?.............my response has been deleted!

It seems like all the A-holes here know how to get along, without the bitchin and moaning that happens over at Dougs .....No misconception at ALL......

Careful with beliefs. Beliefs are what caused this mess. Ideas can change. I usually go for more than one source (and different) when confirming or denying ideas. Taking it all from this board is like shaping your ideas by only watching Fox News. A lot of it has been deleted unfortunately so the record is now reduced to what the concerned parties say happened regardless of which board you ask.

I am no instigator & not going to label anyone but I do know the board here conducts itself without "he says/she says' kinds of ways. we are mature people & can disagree & agree respectfully & not look in the rear view mirror. new day-new sun.
never had a call from anyone pissing over anything to my knowledge at least on my end & a few in which we chat but not over members & silly little mishaps.
there is no friction here & I think I speak for many just nice simple "tranquility" & ignore the negatives. we all brainfart sometimes.
the ky challenge speaks for itself & proves my point fwiw- I have yet to witness a negative moment & hopefully don't but if it did I'm sure it would not get repeated. we are all human & make mistakes & no one with this much talent around will run the gauntlet just like in any competition.
the ky thing is about hanging out, relaxing, eating great foods etc & do whatever each wants to do & learning.
enuff said.
