I get out whenever I can find the time. Seems like spring is always a super busy time.
I shoot a browning gold with a rhino choke. Topped with a nikon monarch turkey scope. I don't shoot enough to roll my own, so I use the hevi shot duplex load.

I too chase the gobblers, my rig is a Remington 870 with Indian Creek and Winchester Long Beard #4s, Burris fastfire III sits on top, good to 70 yds. never tried the TSS but always wanted to.

Yep Linebaugh. Been there and done it many times. Its exciting, very exciting!!! However, i still much prefer traditional Hunting. I have yet to hunt a gobbler that i could not kill Reaping. Its just that effective. It could really Hurt the population in the midwest. Be very careful On Public Ground tho!!! Little worried about young hunters not actually Learning the true art of calling a gobbler and hunting them Traditionally. Kinda like the Mojo Mallard decoy. Kids/Grown men alike hit Public lands with A Mojo each and kill ducks. They think they are all Duck Commanders!!!! Wish the Mojo was outlawed.

You will be addicted Bill. Don't be afraid to lierally go right after them. You are wirey enough you can get behind the decoy and crawl in on them. I'm 6'2" and 285 so it's not as easy. I have to use the ground to my advantage and get into their space then call. At that point if they hear you and respond the party is on.
Not all birds will come in, some are scared to fight and some herd their ladies away. If you get in their space its about 7-8 out of 10 that will come in to fight.

Love to chase turkeys. I shoot a 870 turkey tactical with Rhino choke and Nitro Company 4x5x7 heavy shot in 3.5". Me and a bud have looked into the TSS but haven't took the plunge.

got my ole 870 out today and checked it over, cleaned the barrel and checked the battery in the fastfire, all is well.
Been thinking about a new gun, would be hard to beat the 870, have had about 10 turkey guns over the years and this one is a killer. sold a Benelli super 90 a few years back with intentions of replacing it with a new gun but I've never got around to it. here are the ones that I like.
Franchi Intensity Winchester super x 3 browning maxis
what would you guys pick?

been spring hunting gobblers and fall turkeys since 1968. Obviously my favorite turkey killer is my old Ithaca Mag 10 auto. Have killed many turkeys with it. Fitted with a Carlsons choke. It is kinda heavy and does not get out much any more.
At age 66 I have switched to my lighter and shorter guns. Have a Franchi "48" in 20 gauge that is really nice, and a Browning 12 gauge BPS "special" with straight stock and 22" barrel with a Carlsons choke.
I shoot #4 lead in the 10 and 12 gauge guns and #5 or 6 shot in the 20.
My spring hunting is very limited now as I had a good friend killed in spring season back in the 90s. The culprit was never found. My spring hunting now is only on weekdays and preferably when the weather is bad, keeps lots people out of the woods.
I find fall and winter seasons really nice and pretty much have the woods to myself.
Best to all and stay safe. 10

I know this is an old thread, but I just set up an Encore 20 gauge for turkey this year. Haven't turkey hunted in 20 years since I got out of school but my son wanted to go. He is 10 and I let him shoot my Benelli 12 gauge 1 time and he didn't like it. No reason to put him through excessive recoil. Encore pro hunter frame, 26" 20 gauge 3 inch TC barrel but I swapped out the factory tube for a Carlson's TSS choke designed for the Federal TSS turkey loads 0.555 constriction. Shooting the 7-9 duplex shot size. At 30 and 40 yards its more than adequate. While I had the frame apart to Duracoat it tactical black I replaced all the springs with a Bellm kit to lower the pull weight to 2.5#. Mounted the Vortex scope with the illuminated center dot. And of course the target pics posted on there side, but they open correctly when you click on them.

Been spring turkey hunting over 50 yrs. Used all kinds of shotguns and shells. Use a benelli m2 now with a primos jelly head choke(.665 i think) win. Long beard xr 3" #5 or heavi shot magnum blend.Either will kill at 50 yds. 20 yds real tight patterns, better hold real good.
