So I have been collecting parts for a 40 cal for a couple years. Remington 700ml,shilen .392-.400 barrel, FF sizing die. Contacted Richard to do the metal work. He installed a HIS LRMP plug. He had to open up the bolt nose and did a great job. Bolted her down in a SPS stock. A nightforce SHV. i.imgur.com/b2YiZ9I.jpgGot to the range to do some fire forming for my HG. I don't like this range as you have to shoot 100yds up hill. Sized up 5 225gr startip Furys. I only sized because the bore can change when fouled. First shot was a sighter in the dirt bank. Made my adjustments and then went to paper. First up was varget. I know it's only two shots but looks very promising. Labradar didn't pickup the RL15. i.imgur.com/vTqngGy.jpgScreen shot of Varget speed i.imgur.com/ex4roiT.jpgPics of the modules i.imgur.com/gKlqsIs.jpgi.imgur.com/87V8OVe.jpgSo far I am really tickled. Thanks Richard ya done a good job.

Your welcome Benny! BTW, enjoyed meeting your lovely wife. This is what Benny meant by opening up the bolt nose: Mind you, this is a 700ML. He apparently got a bolt nose kit from Luke so he could use modules vs. 209's. Unknown why he did not get Luke's BP but at any rate, he wanted to use Hank's. Well, low and behold, Luke's bolt nose does not accept Hank's .308 modules? I said: "Benny.........this ain't gonna work?" It seems that Luke's modules must be a tad thinner (width wise) than Hanks so I got my wheels to turning and thought we might get one of the bolt noses that JimBob had been making but it turns out he had none? So looking at it, I got the idea that if I could widen the area that was constricting the module, I might get it to work? After some discussion, Benny said to go ahead and give it a shot! So, using a carbide die grinder bit, I was able to set the bolt up in the mill and widen both sides enough that Hank's module was able to slide in and put Ole's Benny back in business! So, anyone wanting to convert their 700ML to use Hank's ignition system, it can be done with the bolt nose kit from Luke and a slight modification. Too bad JimBob is no longer making them. It might be something Jeff could make as it would convert a lot of 700ML's to his system. They are capable of firing about anything you can fire in a CF muzzle loader with the right barrel. SEW has mine with the JimBob bolt nose!

I think you’ll love the 40 cal. Mine’s considerably different in that it’s a 401/408 16 twist PN and using a 209 ignition. Since it’s a 209 ignition , I’m using a duplex. So far VV110/Varget looks very promising. A rather rushed sighting-in so I could hunt with it on the day after I got a Hank’s sizing die, got a well sub MOA (at 100 yards) with a 2.5x10x scope. The 225g bullet was shooting between 2941 and 2949’/sec. If I had a modern ignition, I’d be trying a single powder load of Varget and 2015. Previous testing and using a duplex with knurled 0.400 200SSTs had good results with VV110/2015. Once again, if I had a modern ignition system, and especially if I were full forming, I wouldn’t be using a duplex. So, in summary, 2015 and Varget are powders to consider.
