Just bought CVAs new .45 accura. Its has a 1/22" twist 30" barrle, I'm shooting black horn powder with 300 gr aeromax pittmans. Currently best group at 100 yards was with 100grains of powder by volume. About 1 inch group. Tried 110grains and 120grains by volume but groupings expanded with more powder. With 120gr of powder i got an average 2220fps. Any suggestion how to get better velocity with closer to 120gr powder? Heavier bullet? lighter bullet? Wads? Plan on shooting 300 yards would be happy with speed at or higher than 2000fs

I assume you mean better accuracy near 120 grains . I mainly shoot Blackhorn . That surprises me you had your best accuracy with 100 grains by volume . I am guessing that load would be around 75 grains by weight . Normally with Kyles Aeromax bullets I need to shoot max loads 85 to 95 grains by weight and with a wad . I prefer wool wads. Sometimes with some guns if I want to shoot 84/120 I need to size my bullets then knurl them back up with 2 files then size back down to the bore size . This weakens the jacket a little allowing the bullet to bump. Also I always have to use a wad unless shooting 95 to 100 grains by weight . Hope this helps good luck !

By weight it was 85grains, and yes i would like better accuracy towards that load. Was not able to measure weight with the 100 and 110 by volume loads. I do have some wads on order. Thanks for the reply!

Zane, The volume to weight ratio of BH209 is 10 to 7.1
100 grains by volume is 71 grains by weight for this powder. When I shot BH209 I weighed my powder to be as precise as possible from one load to the next. Your wads are well on their way to you. I wish you and everyone success for this hunting season!
