Well I got some Berger 300gr Elite Hunters bullets today. The Ogive is exactly the same as my 300gr SMK that's a fluke rarely happens. My Sierra's measure .33820 and carry the bearing surface further ahead than the Berger also these Berger's measure .338005 and drop quickly into the .33795 rather quickly which tells me they should produce less pressure with the same load as the 300gr SMK . So I have the same seating on both but I have to change the seating die because the Berger has a longer nose and boat tail.
I hope they shoot better than the SMK but time will tell its rainy and wind the next two days so I don't know when I will test at 365 yards.

Also did some quick checks on the 300gr Berger's the ogive checks good the AOL varies a little which is normal but the weights are off more than what I have come to expect from Berger the bigger and heavier the bullet becomes it seems there tolerances got bigger so I will need to do some sorting for 1,000 yard tests.

Well I tested the Berger's at 365 yards with RL33 all I can say was it was ugly nothing grouped. Either RL33 is not the right powder for that bullet combo or it just doesn't like Berger bullets period.
I did shoot some 300grSMK with a full case of WC872 109.5grs is about all you can get in it and seat the bullet without bulging the neck. So far this has been the most accurate load I have tested it went 2980fps so I plan on repeating that test with both bullets and see if the Berger's will shoot with powder. WC872 is a old surplus powder I have used in many mag's and has always worked well it is a cold weather powder which is fine for hunting in temps below 40deg.

By a “cold weather powder” what do you mean? Sorry for my ignorance.

WC872 was developed for 50BMg and 20MM cannon shells both were many used in aircraft at high altitude in cold temps. I has used it in big Mag cases and it always shot well but it can have a big swing in velocity and pressure going from 80deg down to say 20deg. If you work up a load in hunting season where temps run say between 20 to 30 deg you have no problems so I will wait till it stays below 40 to test at 1,000 yards with WC872.
Since H1000 seems to be the go to powder I will give it a try with the Berger's and see how they group from what I have read it will be hard to get to 2900fps with H1000

You might try vhit n570. I had good luck with it in my 338 edge. Good velocity and accuracy with 300 gr matchkings. I sold it several years ago but I think I was getting a little over 3000 fps with a 30" barrel. 300 gr matchkings were nasty on deer I never had one run. The guy who built my gun built himself one also. He tried 300 gr berger and said his deer were running a long ways before dying. I believe he went to a 225 gr hornady bullet (sst I think) and deer never took a step!
