Disclaimer: I have done no testing!
I just always figured it was a marketing ploy to take advantage of those who think there is a difference.

If your talking about 209 primers, yes, there is a difference.

The 209 Shotshell Primers labeled for Muzzloaders were supposed to be weaker & help eliminate the “Crud” Ring make by Triple 7 powder? IIRC the Winchester “Triple 7” Brand was Crazy Expensive!

If shooting Blackhorn you need to shoot normal 209 shotgun primers. NOT ! the inline or 777 version of 209s.

I think the regular 209 primer were more for trap shooters When I shot trap all the shooters seem to like the regular 209 over other brands I am going shooting this week I have some I may give them a try But I really don't think I would trust them for hunting

I had my best luck with Winchester 209's. With Blackhorn and I shot a lot of it,I couldn't do any better. I also know that was my rifle and my load, rifles and ignition systems differ for sure.

Several years ago My local gun shop gave me a pack of the Winchester ML primers to try and they seemed ok but For hunting or using bh209 I will use CCI 209 mag or Federal 209a.

CCI's worked real good I just got my best groups with Winchesters. The load I was shooting was 260 gr extreme elite knurled 1 rotation on medium bastard file firm hand pressure. 84 gr Black horn 209.
