A friend of mine has a knight disc 45cal and wants to shoot sabotless with BH209. He has a smooth sizing die. Is there more required that fitting the bullet to the barrel? Does he need to use a wad between bullet and powder?

I like using a wad with BH209. I have used wool and veggie. The gun will tell you which one it likes better.

I normally use a wad . But like Schunter says not all guns are alike. I have some that do not like wads???

I wanted to post this earlier but I didn't have my laptop til now My first attempt shooting sabotless out of my Disc Elite .45 with a 1:30 twist barrel 100yds, 120gr BH209, no wad, no sizing, knurled 250gr Barnes TEZ Second attempt Everything the same except I used a .060 veggie wad, better but not stellar, I also tried a 250gr Hornady FTX but that bullet hit about a foot to the left and the recovered bullet barely had any rifling marks on it. A thin jacketed bullet may work best, something like a 275gr BE

I shoot mostly Blackhorn . I could not get Barnes bullets to work . Maybe if you annealed ? I have never tried that.
Parker BEs or Parkers Emax are the easiest to get to shoot with Blackhorn because of the .015 jacket.
Kyle's Accumax and Aeromax bullets will also work very well. I personally think Kyle builds a better bullet and I know for a fact his quality control is better. You may need to knurl the Pittman bullets depending on how much powder you shoot. That helps grab the rifling . I have shot some very good groups with Pittmans. Even have a couple high scores with Pittman bullets at Friendship.

I reread your post . Your more than likely gonna need to shoot a short stubby bullet like a BE with that 1-30 . You may have trouble stabilizing a high BC bullet
