I wanted you guys opionion on Talley rings . I have read good things about theses rings .I need to shave some weight off a Rifle . Also can anyone recommend a light weight scope that can handle recoil . I've heard the new Leupold VX5 HD is handling recoil fairly well . They weigh in around 20 oz . I'm wanting something around 15X to 20X max magnification. Thank u for any and all replies

I've used Talley lightweight rings on a couple different SML's. They always held up well and did the job. The only downside to me and the reason I quit using them is that I like to be able to remove my scope with rings intact in case I want to reinstall the scope later without much adjustment. I use Warne QD's on all three of my guns. I have two different scopes for each gun. Both scopes for each gun are sighted in for different weight bullet and powder combos...A quick turn of the levers and I can switch from one bullet to another. If you're trying to shave ounces use the Talleys...get a good quality 3x9 1" tube scope. I've got an old Nikon 3x9 Buckmaster on my Scout and it works well. I bought it 11 years ago and put it on my first Savage ML 11...It's held up for over 3000 shots on several SML's over the years. If your looking to have a good 300yd hunting gun you don't need anything more.

I used the talley one piece rings nearly excluaively for years and can totally recommend them. They have been on my muzzleloader for many hundreds of rounds and still solid as a rock.
If you want a light scope that will hold up go with 1" and forget dial up, illumination, large reticles and higher power scopes. I could not in good faith recommend a light weight scope that will hold up on our muzzies. Perhaps your best bet might be a straight power.

Doug what action is it going on? reason I ask is if it's a 700 i have used the DNZ Freedom reaper (double screw ring) set up on several rigs so far that I want to save weight on and they work very well and are very light weight.
As far as scopes go that are light? never had one so far that held up to the upper end loads. would love to try the March 3x24x50 but they are pretty top end price wise but reasonably light.
I just can't bring myself to buy another Leupold after the problems I have experienced with them over the years but maybe that VX-5 is the ticket?

Talley Screw lock detachable rings and Talley 2 piece base is rock solid and extremely lite. Have to use as a set.
Leupold concerns me but vx5hd is absolutely awesome scope especially for hunting.

I primarily use Talley Screw Lock Detachable rings, never had an issue and the scope can be removed with rings attached.

I have used a lot of Talley pic rails, for the money they are hard to beat. TPS makes some good light weight rings too as does Nightforce.
