Well after doing some talking with Jon at Tract Optics I have a new 3x15x50 on the way, I told him I would do a review and put it through the ringer on the .40 Apex, should be a good test mule for any scope worth it's salt, lots of barrel harmonics to deal with, if it proves out it should be a good hunting scope. Anyway check them out and see what you think? www.tractoptics.com/products/riflescopes

From reading about it on their web-site it looks like it has good quality glass. If it will hold up to upper loads in the apex it ought to be another good option.

I almost bought one on Father's Day as they had 20% off in stock items. Unfortunately the Toric was not in stock, so I passed. I am very interested to hear how it fares.

Heard about these a while back. Sounds like a couple guys from Nikon have started a new brand. Would be interested to see how they perform. Let us know what you experience.

Schott glass is good stuff, it's made in the same plant as the Nightforce SHV and Vortex Razor so the know how is there, we shall see..

Yeah, but clarity of the glass means nothing if it will not hold zero or track true.

Scopes are getting better all the time. Lately I have been using my Sig Sauer 3x15x52 Ill I bought last year for a test scope. It is built like a tank and the optics are very good on this model which is the whiskey 5. I really like the easy to read power ring and side focus and the on an off ILL is really nice. My scope was set up in CM which was no problem because they give you one custom dial for the scope. My only problem with the Sig scopes is they don't discount them anymore they want to play the high end game like NF and others but it is a well made scope.
I did look at the Toric and the Athlon scopes but didn't buy any. My old Mil Spec built Tasco 8x32x50 which I bought in the 90's is still going strong and it has been on a punch of hard hitting rifles and now several muzzleloaders it is a shame they stopped selling a scope of this quality they were made for a few years but since they didn't get a Gov contract they stopped making them. The SWFA 10x scope is a built proof scope but a fixed 10 power might be to much for most people.
I think a 3x15x52 is all you need in a scope for a long range muzzleloader normally when you get above 15 power is the glass is not ground really good there never as clear especially in the low end scopes.
Looking forward to your test

I would be surprised if it's not made in the same factory. I went through a lot of reviews before I even talked to Jon about them, all the reviews I read were impressive. the big question is will it stand up to the recoil these guns produce?
There is a definite need for a hunting weight scope with good glass and rock solid adjustments, Is there such an animal? I have yet to find it if it exists. It's hard enough to find a heavy scope that will meet the needs.
I have had others on other forums argue that Leupold this or Nikon that or that brand x is the greatest thing out there. yes some lower power variables without parallax adjustment MIGHT hold up but you can pretty much forget any turret twisting with any degree of success. a lot of guys don't want or need to do wind or elevation correction but then there's the rest of us.
Jon is suppose to get their forum guy to get on here and answer questions, we will see?

Sightron is that scope . At least for myself its the best mid range scope out there that i have found. Hopefully this will be another one .

From what I read it has a one inch tube with 50 moa elevation which is not a lot. But since it is a fairly light scope it might help it survive on a ML. It does share some features with the SIG. I personally won't use anything but a 30mm tube scope you can put heavier parts into a 30mm tube.
I have a ML here at my shop that is wearing a Sightron 111 6x24x50 scope that is a very clear scope with good target turrets and there not extremely expensive. I have two Burris Veracity 3x15x52 scopes on my personal ML'S and they have been rock solid the one has several hundred rounds on it and no problems.

I like my Sightron scopes a lot but for a light gun they are a little fat, I'm building a lightweight or two so I'm in search of a lighter scope that will take some abuse and track true with at least 15x on the top end, for whatever reason I like more magnification in my old age.
I looked hard at the Sig's as well and might end up with one?

Sigs are as heavy as the Sightrons . I was just the opposite i was looking for the heaviest scope I could find for competition . Thats Nightforce . But for hunting it would be nice to find a light scope . What do these 15X scopes weigh ?

Jon is suppose to get their forum guy to get on here and answer questions, we will see? My apologies on the delay guys. I'm here to be of service anyway I can for TRACT. If anyone ever has any questions, feel free to send them my way. Ive been in the Shooting/Hunting/Optics industry for about 12 years now and am very happy when both Jon & Jon (yep, 2 Jons') founded TRACT as I had previously worked with them. Just to reiterate from above, the "Jons'" founded TRACT to give us better quality optics for less money, plain and simple. We're doing that thru direct to consumer retail and have loved every second of it. You just don't need to pay premium prices to get premium glass. I bounce around the forums so if you send me a message, please forgive me in advance if it takes me a day or two to get back to you. From 8-5 I am also a product development manager for a hunting company as well. Thanks guys and happy to be here! Trevor TRACT Optics www.tractoptics.com

I looked at the rimfire scopes, in my opinion a truly good .22 scope should be parallax adjustable. A scope set for 75yds won't shoot a good group at 25yds due to parallax. A good gun can out shoot the scope at yardages under 75.

Those are definitely not rimfire competition scopes Greg! More like a general purpose scope.

It's refreshing to see a company who has feet on the ground, I want to thank Trevor for coming over and putting a plug in, my scope arrived today but I have to hit the hay field, when I get home I will unbox it and give some initial impressions.
