today I got started a little after daylight, I knew it would be windy with a cold front coming through last night. I got to shoot at my friends range and its pretty nice to get to shoot to 400 If I want.
I started at 100 with IMR-4198 @ 76 grns/ no wad. I should have shot a fouler first but it is what it is
I then shot one group at 200 with the same load.
next I went to 300 and fired one sighter to see where to hold and fired 5 shots.
next up was H-4198/ 300 be that I shot last week with a .030 wad, I guessed at the hash mark and got it close. note; scope adjustments were made between groups. I fired 6 shots because that's all the 300s I had sized, the wind was starting to pick up with no set direction, just swirling around.
up next was the 325 MHs with 71 grns IMR-4198 and no wad, they stunk pretty bad for whatever reason??? 1-3 were not bad but 4 &5 ??
I had 5 275s left so I decided to try them with H-4198 and a wad, I used the wrong hash mark on shot one, I used number 5 instead of 4, I then went to mark #4 and shot the last 4. 2-4 were pretty tight but #5 spoiled it
as you can see I didn't set the world on fire but I got to play with the scope some and got a better Idea of what to use at the shoot, maybe??
One note of interest is the new US Optics pic rail level I put on the rail, I really like it. I can see it with my left eye while keeping my right on the target. On the last group I forgot to level on shot number 4 and as a result it went right, I noticed that I routinely cant my gun for some reason. that tells me If I can make it a habit to look at the level first it will help my shooting.
next time out it will be wearing a Jewell set at about 1 lb, I noticed today that when I wanted the gun to go off I still had to squeeze harder, it still has the factory trigger at 2lb..

That's pretty cool! For some reason I had better luck with the BE's at longer ranges than the MH just figured I had not figured the right size for the MH to get good results. Figured the new 270 Emax might be better, still haven't tried them yet.
Thanks for the report

Looking good Bill... I'm waiting to the last minute to get ready for the shoot... Lorne wants mat Atacr so I'm going to mount it on his rifle this weekend, put his Vortex Viper PST on another SPML and figure out what I'm going to put back on my rifle.. I have a couple nightforce scopes on order and I hope they come in today...

I have glass, about to have a trigger, now Im running out of excuses. If I can get below half moa to 300 consistently I will be happy. Shooting like I did today will get me skunked in KY!

Good shooting. You are tracking on the bubble level and I preach it for LR work; as little as 5° will give you a mil (or roughly 3.5 MoA) lateral shift. Check it before every shot.

Good report Bill...was the last group at 300 also...? The 275's were doing well for you...Imo when you get your technique ironed out, you're going to be hard to beat....With your trigger upgrade you will have no excuses,lol....JK...

Bill, are Parkers your bullet of choice?

Good shooting, especially considering the wind. A lighter trigger will no doubt shrink your groups at the bench.

Rambler
I would answer that with a YES. the BEs for up close range work (300 in) and the MHs for long stuff and hunting. nothing wrong with other bullets if you can get them to shoot accurately in your gun..

Hillbill and Keith: Would you suggest using the level for long range hunting? What is the exact model and where might be a good place to buy it? Any other pointers about the bubble/level? Is there a level you can use with a regular Murphy scope mount?
